Using simple, commonly available software tools, technically savvy employees can easily view or alter the data while it’s queued in printer spool files. Transmit these files over the Internet, and the risk of unauthorized access or alteration is even greater.
SD express utilises advanced data encryption to protect documents from unauthorized access and alterations. For superior security, flexibility and ease-ofimplementation, Capella employs the Rijndael encryption algorithm. Rijndael is the new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) of the National Institute of Science and Technology - an agency of the United States Commerce Department. The SD Express solution waits until the moment of printing to decrypt the printer-bound data, protecting documents throughout the entire transmission process. In the event that the document is somehow routed to the wrong location, encryption makes that the resulting output unreadable.
Secure Document Delivery Made Fast and Affordable
In the past, certified mail, courier services and other time and cost-intensive processes were the delivery methods of choice. With the invention of the fax machine, the speed of document delivery was improved, but at the cost of document image quality and security.
Capella Technologies’ SD Express is the fast and economical alternative to these processes. Remote users - either employees or qualified business partners - can print to SD Expressequipped printers from anywhere on the web. Data encryption ensures privacy and document integrity throughout the web transmission process, combining the security of courier delivered documents with near instantaneous delivery.
This ability to receive and output documents near instantaneously also makes an SD Express equipped printers an alternative to standard fax machines. Instead of the low resolution, second generation documents produced by fax machines, SD Express users receive clean, laser-printed originals combined with a level of document security unmatched by most fax machines.
Leveraging HP® Chai Server Technology
To deliver these capabilities, the Capella SD Express solution leverages HP Chai Server technology. Chai Server gives embedded chip appliances, including the latest generation of HP LaserJet® printers, the ability to connect directly to the web using standard web protocols such as HTTP and MIME.
Ease-of-Use
To provide remote, secure access to the printer, simply insert the SD Express logic module into any free DIMM socket in a compatible late model HP LaserJet printer supporting Chai Server technology.
The SD Express client encryption software can then be installed on the PCs of authorized users, enabling seamless document encryption. These users can be located anywhere on the web or within a company Intranet.
To print a secure document remotely, users simply set their application to output to the remote printer in the same manner that they would select a directly attached or networked printer. This is the only end user action required. The SD Express software automatically encrypts the data and e-mails it to the SD Express-equipped HP LaserJet Printer without further user intervention.
Once the file is received, the printer e-mails an acknowledgment of receipt to the sender and decrypts the document just prior to printing, ensuring document integrity and security throughout the printing process. If the document is accidentally or covertly routed to the wrong printer, the final output will be unreadable.
